Broken Bow, OK - Candidate Hank Austin announced today that, if elected, he will introduce legislation titled "Oklahoma's Holy Ground Law." "Over the past few years several local churches and cemeteries have been the target of copper thieves and vandals. Unfortunately, some people have lost respect for two places that are sacred to so many of our county residents," he stated. If elected and when passed, this legislation would create tougher penalties on criminals who steal and/or destroy church or cemetery property.

Broken Bow, OK - Hank Austin Challenges Opponent to Debate. The following letter appeared in the McCurtain Daily Gazette on Sunday, June 22, 2008:

Dear Mr. Bailey,

As a candidate for State Representative I am excited about the possibility of representing the people of Southeastern Oklahoma, as I'm sure you are too.

I believe it is our responsibility to have a public discussion of the issues facing our area and to discuss our plans to bring about positive change here. Candidate debates go back to the very founding of our country and are an important part of our democracy.

I hope you will respond in this newspaper within the next week so that together we can begin planning this event.

Sincerely and respectfully,

Hank Austin
